about the artist

I was born Székesfehérvár and live in Szeged - Hungary. I am a full-time artist. I'm employed with painting, drawing, digital 2D, abstractions graphic and abstract figurative study. My other qualifications: economist and computer programmer.

I speak German, a little English and Russian and of course, Hungarian. My wife speaks in addition Finnish.

about the artist

Miriam Kilmer has been surrounded by the arts since early childhood. Her parents founded Green Hedges Elementary School (still flourishing in Vienna, VA) in order to give their children a superior education with emphasis on the arts. Her ancestors include poets Joyce Kilmer and Aline Murray Kilmer, and American Impressionist Frederick C. Frieseke. Miriam’s experience in the challenges of preserving Frieseke’s works on paper has encouraged her to use archival materials in her own artwork.

Enriched by this background, Miriam and all of her siblings have continued to develop their artistic talents throughout their lives. Miriam earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking at UNC-G, and her Masters in Theology from De Sales School of Theology. She has led art workshops with children and adults, has worked as a portrait studio photographer, and has operated her own fine arts business since 1979. Over the years, Miriam has developed a variety of distinctive styles, influenced by the medium, subject matter, and purpose of the artwork, as well as her widening outlook and diverse environments. She now specializes in pastel, photography, computer graphics, and web design. Her unifying theme is love for the Source of creation and all that flows from that Source, as evidenced by her focus on nature, portraits, and spiritual subjects.

The digital revolution has enabled Miriam to combine her interests in photography and graphics; each image is creatively enhanced using computer graphics, and then printed with archival Epson inks on archival matte paper to produce high-quality images that will stand the test of time. Most of her images are offered in two limited edition sizes: 12" x 18" on 13” x 19” paper and 7” x 10” on standard 9” x 12” paper. Each limited edition giclée print is individually printed, titled, numbered, and signed by the artist herself. Archival mounting and framing are also available, as are inexpensive signed open edition prints and note cards. Miriam has exhibited her works in numerous juried and solo shows, most recently “Animals of the Blue Ridge and Beyond” at The Art Group in Mount Jackson, VA, April 2008. Her photographs have been published in newsletters, books and magazines, most notably the Shapenotes issue of Smithsonian in The Classroom. She has done many commissioned portraits in pastel as well as photographs and one oil, and her best-selling photographic illustration of the poem “Trees” was commissioned as well.

Miriam has done extensive traveling within the US, Canada and Europe. Some of her most dramatic photographs are of the Southwestern US, yet she loves to return to her second home, the Shenandoah Valley. From early childhood, the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley have been among her favorite places to visit. Since the early eighties, she has made numerous visits to the area, taking thousands of photographs of landscapes, local wildlife and farm animals, many of which are displayed at The Art Group in Mount Jackson, Virginia (on Route 11 between Strasburg and New Market, just opposite the Mount Jackson Visitor Center). She also regularly shows at The Art League in Alexandria, VA.

artists' statement

I am inspired primarily by my reverence for nature. My pictures come from many places, such as my native Virginia and other states I have visited, notably the southwest landscapes of Arizona and New Mexico. I love the challenge of photographing animals: birds - especially baby birds and their nests - butterflies, cats, deer, and so on. I am fascinated by the power of the camera to freeze moments which pass so quickly they are easily missed. These include not only living things such as flowers and trees blowing in the wind, but also rocks, cliffs, clouds, and landscapes as they are changed by wind, storms, and shadows in shifting sunlight from sunrises to sunsets and twilight. Although nature photography is my first love, I also enjoy taking portraits, and happily take commissions for special photographic or graphic projects. When choosing which of my thousands of images to offer as limited edition giclee prints, I look for a spiritual quality, dramatic composition and sumptuous color. Whether you choose to order my artwork or are simply here to browse, I hope you enjoy the pictures I exhibit.

Ejay Khan - Featured Artist at Capucines Boulevard

about the artist

Ejay Khan, was born a long time ago near Boston, MA. The oldest of six children and daughter of an entrepreneurial father and artistic, spiritual mother, she spent her early adulthood climbing the corporate ladder. She began painting in 1990, after leaving her position as a corporate risk manager for a large Boston-based real estate development/management firm, and moving to Newburyport. Prior to that, she had been an avid photographer for many years, and today enjoys digital photography.

She is a self-taught painter, photographer and graphic artist, who studied portraiture and life drawing with Copley Master, Mark Hayden, while living in Newburyport. In 1994 she moved to Jamaica, where she lived and painted for four years. During this time, she developed her love of bold color and deep respect for the Rastafarian way of life, which her work has become known for. After returning to the US, she settled in Key Largo, FL, where she and Joda Khan owned and operated Jah Works Gallery and Cultural Exchange Center, which became a hub of cultural activity drawing artists, poets, musicians and actors from Key West to Ft. Lauderdale and visitors from around the world for weekly open mike poetry, experimental theatre and music jam sessions.

Ejay has created an extensive collection of works in collaboration with Joda, expressing subjects ranging from abuse, homelessness and addiction, to God and the devil. In July 2003 Ejay returned North and settled in East Boston, where she owns and operates Khan Studio, a gallery, eclectic art gift shop and artist services studio providing fine art printing, matting and framing services for fellow artists. Ejay also developed and administers Khan Studio International, a large and growing Internet gallery site. She currently is primarily working in oils, focusing on peaceful representational landscapes and florals, in a time when peaceful is too often missing in people's view of life.

Ejay's works have won numerous prizes and awards over the years, and are in private collections around the globe. She is a past board member of the Newburyport Art Association, artist member of the Boston Copley Society, member of the Upper Keys and Marathon Art Associations, and currently is an active member of the East Boston Artists Group and is involved with East Boston Open Studios. She also operates 80 Border Street Cultural Exchange Center, a nonprofit center for visual, literary and performing arts.

I believe it is an artist's responsibility to create, using whatever medium best suits, art that speaks to the heart, mind and soul of the viewer, and passes on to them a message. I use my paintbrush, camera and computer graphics to express and pass on to others my joy and peace in life, as well as my outrage at the policies of current political regimes, and sadness over the suffering and apparent state of decline of mankind. I use realism to create a surrealistic view of events, places and people that is often both attractive and shocking.

Since earning an Art degree from the University of Cincinnati, Jerry Sieve has spent 31 years as a professional scenic/nature photographer/ artist . He has over 2,500 images published worldwide. (1977 to present) 6 years of painting oils on canvas. He has given talks on “Searching for the Grand Landscape,” and over the past 16 years, he has taught more multi-day workshops for the FRIENDS OF ARIZONA HiGHWAYS Magazine than any other of their teachers.

His work is in numerous individual and corporate collections. He has taught over 50 photography workshops in various areas across the nation. He was the Artist in residence: Fountain Hills High School 2006, Cactus Shadows High School, 2006. Jerry lives in Arizona and has been married 34 years. Additionally: 60 Years of Arizona Highways award National Wildlife Federation Calendar award Publications: One man Photographer for coffee table books entitled America's Southwest; 1985 Ohio: Images of Nature 1990 Along the Arizona Trail 1998. artist statement

There are usually just a few moments when all the visual elements come together. Anticipating these critical events are essential to make the image MORE than just another landscape. Specializing in fine art nature images with dramatic natural light, my images are made on large format, 4x5 inch film. From these, each carefully selected color image is printed on Fuji Crystal Archive print material for permanence and color brilliance. Black and White prints are Gelatin/Silver, fiber based in nature using an archival process. Finally, B&W prints are then treated in a selenium and gold bath to increase tonal depth and further increase permanence. Other “prints” are made on Glass and backed in gold metallic. These “GOLDTONES” represent work that has not been regularly done for almost 100 years.

For seven years now I have also searched for the Grand Landscape via painting. This gives me a unique perspective in that I can “see” images in many different ways. I have even had articles published on this idea in a national publication. I have had the honor of searching the North American landscape for moments in time which express the essence of the natural world.

Certainly I have experienced many more “moments” than I could ever record. However, the ability to respond to most of these natural events is a skill learned over time. What is required? A precise, experienced, understanding of light and its various effects on the landscape. Many, in today’s fast paced society “look” at many things but in reality we “see” very little. The fine art nature photographer must slow to learn the rhythm's of Nature and learn her language. The process of using the large format view camera is, by its very nature, slow and so aids in the critical”seeing” of the natural world......................JERRY SIEVE

Emerging Artists Are A Relative Value

A new era of value equality is unfolding among the worlds' artists. In the case of the price differential between the work of the contemporary 'art stars' and emerging artists, consider for a moment an important influencing factor also found in the stock market: uncertainty. For instance, a company operating in an industry where a key competitor suddenly becomes the subject of an investigation will undoubtedly see its stock price at least temporarily negatively impacted regardless of culpability simply because of investor uncertainty. Lack of knowledge in any industry acts as a damper on value, and let's face it, the famous are such because to date they've received the entirety of the spotlight from the art market apparatchik, hence relatively little is known about those without such support.

However, the internet is THE equalizing factor. In an era where the internet functions as the facilitator of the distribution and promotion of the work of emerging artists from all over the world, the era of the 'art star' deemed such by the critics, curators and self-appointed art experts has come to a necessary end.

In order to assess value and predict the direction of prices with respect to any asset, including stocks, it's instructive to look at comparables. The work of the Old Masters and other dead artists has stood the test of time thus guaranteeing its worth in the form of the stratospheric prices garnered today. What is less clear is the rationale for the difference between the prices paid for the work of many contemporary artists and the much larger group of emerging artists. In any other industry, over time such a relative value disparity would disappear.

Given the increasing recognition of the value of art today, equalization of the prices between discovered and undiscovered artists is inevitable if only because the relative value of the latter is highlighted. In the case of two stocks with equal earnings generating power where the sole exogenous, differentiating factor is the amount of 'coverage' by Wall Street that each receives, the difference in price to the long-term investor highlights the less expensive as a powerful value, and the common sense choice. Yes, the value stock may lack the imprematur of the big Wall Street analysts, but how many times have they overlooked a diamond covered in coal dust? Emerging artists are the greatest investment opportunity that no one has ever heard of.

Svetlana Filimonova was born in Siberia. From an early age she showed artistic tendencies and had to draw on every material such as walls,furnitures,bodies,and paper. In 1975 she completed examinations and was admitted to Art School. In 1982 she completed a course of architecture, following that with the completion in 1985 of a course of philosophy at Sverdlovsk University. She also obtained a degree in the theory of Art from University of Omsk.

From 1982-1985 she worked as a designer in the Departament of PhotoArt and from1985-1991 she worked in the Departament of Omsk. She opened her own business in 1992 and worked successfully as a business women. In 1996 year she lost two close people. One was her brother and the other her friend from Art School, who died of cancer. His name was Sergey Sudakov. He was one of the best craftsmen of ceramic. Svetlana promised him to continue his ceramics song, but she didn't have knowledge in this.
The entire time she didn't end her connection with her University, taking part in various exhibitions.

She settled in Israel in 2000 with her three children. She began a search for a job and took a course of Design and building of sites and receive a place in a Glass factory. She painted glass for three years but she felt havn't a health and any force to 2004. In July of 2004 became the red point in her life or to live or to died. Her life was saved and keep a clay.The new period was begin.The song of clay. The clay speaks to me, it keeps and supports me in the hard moments of my life, it cries and laughs with me. I feel the love and tenderness....And I hold my word before Sergey, I continue his song,but now it is my song too....

How Urban Art is Changing the Art World

The traditional path to art world notoriety has usually included art school followed by showings in galleries, and being noticed and collected by well-known art patrons and eventually museums, with the accompanying media attention to keep it all going. Urban art has by all accounts turned this system on its head and instead of artists praying to start out in galleries they are finding their audience first, literally, out in the open, on the street. From there, with the masses telegraphing their preferences via the internet, the attention-getting artwork then moves into the galleries.

Artists' long-held frustration at often not being able to have their work seen in galleries has, in the case of Urban Art, found an outlet in having unlimited audiences able to view their art, thus propelling it into the galleries. In February, 2008 when Bono's Red auction was held in New York it was Banksy's work that set new price records even in the rarified company of work from some of the art world's most lauded producers. The Tate Modern in London, the world's most visited Modern Art Museum, in May hosted 'Street Art,' an exhibition during which an entire side of its building was utilized by Urban artists.

As accessibility has driven the meteoric rise of Urban Art sales worldwide, the availability of emerging artists' work on facilitating mechanism that is the internet will eventually yield the same trajectory.

Art Comes to the Masses

We felt art before we intellectualized it. Just as the internet has facilitated heretofore unseen levels of political participation and contribution, the increasing amounts of artwork online is raising the public's comfort with and confidence and trust in their own artistic gut reactions and taste. Trust in one's own evaluative ability is rising alongside a very quiet decline in the experts' ability to dictate worth and value. Formerly geographically isolated artistic fiefdoms are falling/being replaced as the internet facilitates new levels of artistic exchange and collaboration.

Those with an interest in art do not need gallery owners, art curators or any other art dealer telegraphing taste. It's no coincidence that just as an increasing number of people are turning toward a spirituality which is personally meaningful and away from traditional organized religious structures, blind faith in the opinions handed down by the arbiters of taste in the art world are gradually being replaced by an overarching supreme, personal aesthetic.

about the artist

I received my BA and MFA degrees in Fine Art, from the University of California, Los Angeles. Changing my major to art in my junior year shaped my outlook on life. I began to think visually, and understand the power of visual communications. Being an artist has defined my understanding of the creative process, and strengthened my ability to synthesize new methods and ideas from existing ones.

The study of art helps one appreciate the discipline and effort that goes into producing something of quality. Currently, I am a full time Graphic Design Instructor for the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Online Division. Before deciding to teach, I freelanced as a designer and animator for several years. I have developed and taught courses in traditional animation, 2D computer animation, digital imaging, sound design, interactive multimedia, storyboarding, and beginning drawing, at several colleges and universities.

My creative works are included in private and corporate collections and have received many awards. Currently, I’m pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Educational Technology at Texas A & M University, College Station. My research interests are virtual reality and visualization in education.

The Rise of the Relevance of the Artist

Before co-founding CapucinesBoulevard.com, I spent my career investing in small and micro cap value stocks which basically means the smallest and least expensive 5% of all public companies - and despite the fact that these were all well-run enterprises, most investors didn't pay much attention to them --- so, when I went to visit companies to learn more about their operations, many were pleased that someone was actually interested.

Most importantly, by spending the time to get information that other investors were ignoring, I was able to find opportunities that others missed. I believe that like small and micro cap value stocks, Emerging Artists are the greatest investment opportunities that no one has ever heard of.

Many people make the mistake of looking at art as something that's nice to have, but that simply doesn't meet the qualifications of a necessity. How wrong they are.

Art happens to be the biggest unregulated, legal economy in the world to the tune of $64B worldwide, in fact, it grew 95% between 2002 and 2006 and, the truth is, as Robert Redford has said, "culture is a solid investment"

Make no mistake, art isn' fluff. We live in an abundant country, and have pretty much taken care of all of our basic needs, and our culture places increasing value on creativity and innovation: the ideas that catch on today are those that represent conceptual leaps - they give us things that we didn't know we were missing, not things we necessarily needed, but ideas that appeal to our creative natures.

Artists begin with an innate advantage in this new economy by their very ability to see and to think differently. And Art is becoming more and more intertwined with our daily lives: we can see it in the examples of corporations buying Contemporary art in order to attract and inspire their employees, and to highlight their brands to the world while giving something back to society -- and these companies aren't cutting back on their art buying despite what's going on in the economy, because they've come to recognize how much the visual really drives our culture, and keeps them top of mind.

The other side of this new economy other than the art itself centers around the value of it -- art should always be purchased for the joy it brings, but art is also an asset and if it's bought for pleasure and gives the investment returns for free, what more could anyone ask?

However, when it comes to art, it's contemporary art that's in demand because even though people admire the Old Masters, what they want to own are representations of their own culture and time. Contemporary art is more topical and often more interesting and now, it's becoming more valuable.

Art isn't usually an asset that springs to mind when thinking of investment alternatives, but its long-term performance record argues that it should be.

For the last 50 years, contemporary art has outperformed the S&P 500, which means that someone who bought a portfolio of art would have done better than someone who invested in the stock market over the same time period. The same holds true during every major war of the twentieth century and through the twenty seven recessionary periods since 1875.

From an investment standpoint, and most important for Emerging Artists, is the fact that there is no greater advantage to buying more expensive works of art, buyers get the same returns buying artwork that's never been exhibited or received any citations, as they would buying the work of artists with more notoriety.

about the artist

Denis E. E. Denis was born in Belarus, Russia in 1971 to a family of architects. During his childhood years, he spent a great deal of time with his grandfather, who served as a military photographer-correspondent and who was a well-known contributor to the country’s culture. The grandfather profoundly influenced Denis, and instilled a sense of optimism in him. As he grew up his parents wished him to become an artist and sent him to an art school, while simultaneously sending him to additional drawing lessons at the ‘High Institute of Art’ in his hometown.

Upon graduation, he was drafted to the military, during which time he also got married. His discharge from the army coincided with the dramatic disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991, and having a family to support, he put his art on hold and undertook a job running a truck company. Within a few years, he had a large business of his own. In 1998, after getting divorced Denis was forced to re-evaluate his life. The strong financial basis that he had created permitted him to make radical, life altering decisions. He realized that his life had been taking him down the wrong path, and he returned to art. He sold his businesses and devoted himself completely to painting.

He studied under two different tutors from the ‘Academy of Arts’ in Moscow, mastering the technique of relief, as well as others. He designed and fabricated icons for metal church bells and in 2000 received a blessing from the highest-ranking cleric in the country. Denis went on to experiment with and master every possible painting technique, becoming famous for his realistic paintings of wines and glass artifacts. He has had many exhibitions in his native country and in the USA.

about the artist

I work to create images that spark emotions or encourage a different way to view the world around us, working primarily with acrylics on canvas or resin. I was trained as a nuclear engineer and as my career had twists and turns, I was continually painting. My technical side often is evident in my paintings. Today, I am a professional artist residing in Chicago. As a self-taught artist I am constantly evolving with my work. Through many years of painting and experimenting with new styles, I am striving to create a look and feel that is uniquely my own that calls to me. My recent work using resin at the moment feels like a direction to explore further. I think the medium has a lot of potential and challenges.

artists' statement

I am inspired by many things around me, people, nature, and ideas. I see images as “visual metaphors”. I attempt to create these images hoping to capture the moment, mood or feeling. I enjoy creating with tinted resin due to its unique properties. It is these properties which also add to the challenge. Resin is a result of a quick chemical reaction; therefore the amount of each component is crucial, otherwise the resin will not cure or dry. It is also quick, often allowing me less than 20-30 minutes before I am unable to manipulate it like paint. I must plan out in advance and then work very quickly.

Resin has a sense of depth to it depending on the color and layer combinations. All these attributes combined attracts me to using resin. They allow me to play with all or just on of the resin attributes, each piece being very different from the one before. When all the conditions are right, I am able to create very unique and interesting pieces. If just one condition is off, the result is a pile of colored, sticky mess. I use resin in two main ways. The first way I use resin similar to how I may use acrylic paint. I “paint” layer over layer to get a play of the colors, texture, and light reflection. The dry time between layers can be as much as 24 hours if I want no interaction of the colored layers. Many of pieces have 6-8 layers so I may take several days for just one piece.

The second manner in which I utilize tinted resin is by pouring all the colors of the images onto the board at once, shape them and then allow them to interact chemically yielding a soft mixing and marbleizing effect often presenting an organic feeling of the image. The pouring and mixing process can only take 30-40 minutes so a lot of planning and preparation goes into each piece before I begin working with the resin. The combination of colors and textures, as well as the image itself, help tell the story. My goal is to encourage others to view the world differently using resin to great images, either abstract or recognizable.

about the artist

I work in both Realistic and Abstract Styles. Born and raised in the Midwest, my love of design, color, and structure led me to different and yet similar careers in the arts. I currently live in Chester County, Pa. Formerly an Interior Designer, I worked as a designer in both contract and residential design and restoration.

For a number of years I was the Design Editor for a national publication based in New York. NOW as a painter, the characteristics of both design and art have become my subjects. I started my painting career in 1992 in watercolor, and then moved on to Acrylics and Oils. Animals, flowers, and landscapes have all been subjects of my brushes. From small-scaled realistic studies to large abstracts, color and pattern are the unifying force.

I have a BA from University of Iowa and have studied at the Art Students League and Parsons School of Design in New York. I have also taken classes with various artists in Chester County, Pennsylvania including Jon Redmond and Rea Redifer.

artists' statement

I paint in both realism and abstract. I live in a traditional area of the country that does not have a market for the abstract peices, so I have decided to market these online. Occasional landscapes may slip into this venue since I have deemed it to be fairly abstract in nature.
