The Jeff Koons Exhibit at Chicago's MCA

The MCA in Chicago Exhibiting the Work of Iconic Contemporary Artist Jeff Koons May 31 to September 21, 2008

In light of his belief that artists use their art as a means of social mobility, ad man turned artist Jeff Koons' artwork has a definite point of view.  Fortunately, Chicagoans and visitors to the city will be able to view many of his most famous pieces, including "Hanging Heart," during the Spring and Summer. It is the Koons first major U.S. museum exhibition in 15 years and will only be held in Chicago.

Koons' "Hanging Heart" sold in 2007 at Sotheby's for $23.6 million setting a record for the most expensive artpiece by a living artist ever auctioned. His sculpture "Diamond (Blue)" was sold later that year for $11.8 million by Christie's. His work, "Puppy" is installed outside the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.

Drawing on both his marketing background and time as a commodities broker, Koons utilizes kitsch images in his works which seek to depict society's fascination with popular culture, and the marriage of art and commerce.

A former Art Institute of Chicago student, Koons states, "I have always used cleanliness and a form of order to maintain for the viewer a belief in the essence of the eternal, so that the viewer does not feel so threatened economically. When under economic pressure you start to see disintegration around you. Things do not remain orderly. So I have always placed order in my work not out of respect for Minimalism but to give the viewer a sense of economic security."
