Carol Sabo - Featured Artist at Capucines Boulevard
Capucines Boulevard Features Artist Carol Saboabout the artist
Carol has been an artist and calligrapher for over 40 years. She became a member in many local, national and international art guilds and organizations.
In the 1980’s she did as many as 26 art shows and exhibits, juried and nonjuried, annually that developed her own clientele.
Since 1995 Carol has been working on many corporate and personal commissions as well as a calligraphy book of original religious poems. She has authored and illustrated a cookbook of her family recipes.
Her medium usually consists of watercolors, inks, gouaches for miniatures and acrylics on canvas. Her acrylics are bright, bold and colorful and in some cases she gives them a three dimensional effect, inspired by Georgia O'Keefe.
One of her pieces was a winner in the Graceful Envelope Contest and was on exhibit at the Smithsonian in 2003. She also won “Honorable Mention” in the Campbell’s Art of Soup Contest.
Since moving from Ohio to Arizona in 2003 Carol has been selling her work in Old Town Scottsdale and in Carefree. She was in 'Best of Scottsdale' 2005. “I'm a happy lady and enjoy making people who view my work smile.”
artists' statementI have always loved art and I have been painting since high school where I majored in art. Although I never got an art degree I took many classes and studed under some of the best artists in the area. I'm pretty much self taught and found it easy to sell my artwork since 1965. I studied and taught Calligraphy and have done all the calligraphics from designing logos to doing wedding invitations. I still do calligraphy today but on a more limited basis. I love to paint watercolor miniatures, but I also love to paint in acrylics on canvas in a larger format.
I consider myself a photo realist yet I like to impose my unique style of detail into most of my paintings. I have always loved Georgia O'Keefe so my current style is "big, bold, bright, and runs off the canvas". I like to present the viewer with these things... bright color, lots of detail and some reality. I tend to use my artist's judgement to make my subject more interesting. Selling my paintings pays my bills but I'm rewarded much more when that buyer smiles with such pleasure while looking at my painting he/she just bought.
